Franke Joseph Christian

Franke Joseph Christian

Franke Joseph Christian, 74, died peacefully at his home July 10 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 30,1950 in Würzburg Germany to John and Elsa Krauss Christian. After traveling with his army family they retired in 1968 to Savannah. Franke was part of the first graduating class of Windsor Forest High School. There he met the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Joy Saussy Christian.

Franke served in the Air Force for six years from 1968 to 1974. He then worked for Flight Safety International for 42 years. He, also, co- owned Geechee Bowhunting Supply Company for 12 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He was past president of the Georgia Bowhunters Association, a member of Ogeechee Bowhunters Club, Siena Club, Tearjerker's Camp Club, and the Corvette Club. He loved to kayak, camp, ride bikes, shoot archery, and gun target practice. He loved nothing more than to kayak on the river with his dog, Westbury. The last few years he spent many happy mornings with his good friends at Quick Shot.

Franke is survived by his wife Joy and their three children. His son Bill Christian (Tisha), his daughter Courtney Berinato (Chris), and his son Geoff Christian (Emily).

He was also Papa to Billy Christian, Gabby Christian, Max Berinato, Brigid Fobes, Katie Bullock, and Belle Christian. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Chambless and Carla Godwin (Alan), his sister-in-law Evelyn Logue (Dempsey) and his brother-in-law Hunter Saussy (Paige), and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by many friends and neighbors whose lives he has touched and he held close to his heart.

Visitation will be Friday, July 19 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 20 at 2:00 pm at St George’s Episcopal Church on Willow Road.

In lieu of flowers remembrances can be sent to St George’s Episcopal Church.
